Become a Qualified Early Childhood Teacher
The Master of Teaching (Early Childhood) is designed for graduates who want to become accredited early childhood teachers in Australia. How You Will Learn
Through a blend of lectures, workshops, and supervised placements, you’ll gain both theoretical and practical teaching skills. Mentoring and reflective practice are central to your learning, preparing you for professional accreditation.

You’ll undertake placements in registered early childhood centres, building real classroom experience and professional networks.
Course Learning Outcomes
Graduates of this course will be able to:
- Critically evaluate and analyse theory and practice in child development, health and well-being, pedagogy, leadership, and management.
- Appraise pedagogy and practice in designing, implementing, and evaluating educational programs.
- Monitor and assess children’s learning and development using a range of assessment tools.
- Critically evaluate research, issues and principles connected with professional decision-making as an early childhood professional/leader in educational settings.
- Communicate effectively as an ethical, reflective, and informed early childhood professional when working with colleagues, communities, children, their families, and other stakeholders.
- Identify abilities, interests, and needs of communities, children, and their families to develop inclusive programs which reflect an understanding of the diversity of Australian society.
- Synthesise educational research principles and methods to critically evaluate education programs and policies.

Entry Requirements
To be considered for admission all applicants must:
- Have suitable vaccinations. Some early childhood settings may require you to provide evidence of vaccination prior to undertaking professional experience.
- Satisfy the list of Inherent Requirements for MT(EC) and GDEC, which are available on the Holmes Institute Policy Page.
- Applicants will be required to hold a valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) prior to undertaking professional experience placements as part of this program.
Academic Requirements
To be eligible for admission applicants must have:
- An Australian Bachelor degree or equivalent; or
- An Australian Graduate Diploma; or
- An Australian Graduate Certificate or equivalent plus evidence of a minimum of two years' demonstrable relevant industry experience; or
- Advanced Diploma/ Associate Degree or equivalent plus evidence of a minimum of five years' demonstrable relevant industry experience.
English Requirements
To be eligible for admission applicants must have:
- Successfully completed studies in English (Language or Mode of Instruction) such as Year 12 at Australian High School or an Australian Diploma or higher qualification; or
- Successfully completed studies at a recognised Australian educational institution at an equivalent study level based on at least a 50% pass rate in a recent semester of study; or
- IELTS Overall 7.0 with no band score lower than 6.5;
