The Course
The BSB50420 Diploma of Leadership and Management provides students with the knowledge and practical skills required to perform the role of an employee who can use well-developed skills and have a broad knowledge base in a wide variety of contexts. On completion of the course students will be able to analyse and evaluate information from a variety of sources and may provide leadership and guidance to others. Areas of study covered include leadership, self management, emotional intelligence, communication skills, financial numeracy, as well as the processing of business information, and the delivery of information and services to customers.
Learning how to prioritize, network and use business technologies to access, organise and monitor information demonstrates the comprehensive nature of the BSB50420 Diploma of Leadership and Management. At the end of the course, students will have the competencies to apply for employment as a Junior Manager in a variety of business contexts across various industries.

Students completing the Diploma of Leadership and Management or individual units qualify to apply for credit transfers and/or exemptions in courses at Holmes or other institutions. Successful completion of the course will allow students entry into the second year of Holmes Bachelor of Business.
Course Structure
The course is delivered over 40 tuition weeks. Students who withdraw early from the course will receive a statement of attainment for the units they have completed.
Students will complete four blocks of ten weeks each and can expect to attend classes for an average of 20 hours per week.
Assessment is continuous throughout the course using a range of assessment tools which include workplace simulation exercises, class activities, assignments, case studies, practical demonstrations, quizzes and tests. Students must attempt all assessment items and are required to demonstrate competency in all aspects of the course.
Entry Requirements
Students will be expected to have completed senior high school or its equivalent prior to commencement of the Diploma. Students will also be required to successfully complete a Pre-Training review which includes Language, Literacy and Numeracy assessment.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Students who have completed relevant studies or have experience which may be deemed equivalent to the course may apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Applications can be made at the initial application or can be made within two weeks of commencement of the course.
Please note that RPL cannot result in an international student having less than a full time load of study (20 hours).
International Students
Entry into a Vocational Program requires an English level at least equivalent to IELTS 5.5 or Upper Intermediate at a Holmes English Language Centre. Students who do not have evidence of their English Language level and who are given a "conditional" offer of a place dependant on their English level are advised to have their English ability assessed prior to the commencement of the course. This can be arranged by contacting the International Office or the Campus Manager at any Holmes Campus. If students fail to meet the entry requirements they may enroll on an English language program at a Holmes English Language Centre. For fees associated with such classes please refer to the current Dates and Fees schedule or contact the International Office.
Students on a student visa MUST be enrolled in a full-time course.

The BSB61015 Advanced Diploma of Leadership and Management sets the foundation for good management skills with a focus on productivity, leading people and recognizing the importance of allocating work to meet time and budget constraints. This course highlights the need to develop sound communication skills with both business contacts and work colleagues, assessing information for accuracy and relevance. Obtaining feedback and translating that across the workplace with a need to instigate new or different work practices to further improve efficiencies or service delivery.

Students are required to have completed Diploma of Leadership and Management (BSB50420) or equivalent Diploma or Advanced Diploma from the BSB Training Package or have two years equivalent full-time relevant workplace experience in an operational or leadership role in an enterprise prior to commencement of the Diploma Students will also be required to successfully complete a Pre-Training review which includes Language, Literacy and Numeracy assessment.
